Blinded by the Fight.

It seems to me America is in the fight of her life.  Where is she?  What’s happened to her?  Where are the godly values and the character we say we possess, the ones this country was founded on?

We’ve been infected with the disease of conformation.  Romans 12:2 tells us how that ailment can be avoided but are we even reading our Bibles and seeking God about anything anymore?  Who did we vote for?  Did we pray over our decision?  Did we – despite all odds and what it looked like – vote for GOD’s choice?  Did we seek HIS WILL rather than making the mission about winning at all costs and perhaps leaving God out of it?  Look at the two candidates – do we believe that either of them are GOD’S CHOICE?  I’ve watched in amazement on both sides because we’re settling and voting for blatantly dishonest and ruthless people who will say and do anything to win.  Integrity no longer matters and it seems we as Christian voters don’t care whether God’s involved or not as long as we win!  Conformation.

I’ve been told all my Christian life “you can’t vote your faith”.  So, it looks like we didn’t on either side!  Even prominent Christian leaders who have been asked the question of whether they believe either candidate is God’s choice, every one of them (that I’ve heard anyway) walked all around that issue giving all kinds of excuses, the most prominent to my memory being that no matter what, we must win; we can’t have the other side being in the White House.  I totally get what an important election this is.  I just feel we’ve been so distracted by the fight we’ve sadly conformed (Romans 12:2) and forgotten to include God in this process.

Conformation has overtaken us. We’re living and voting like we don’t have a “God factor” and the evidence of that is very clear.   Had we been fighting “the good fight”, listening to God, allowing Him to lead, and voting with His will as priority, would we be where we are now? Would we have the candidates we have now?

No matter who becomes president, we have only ourselves to blame for the state of the nation.  The demise of our Christian-based country rests on our Christian shoulders. We’ve been distracted, complacent and unfaithful.  We’ve played church and used our Bibles as weapons and excuses and we’ve been fooled by the enemy to think the fight is more important than our faith.  We believe we must win at any cost, thus what we see unfolding right before our eyes.  Conformation.

Forgiveness

“Forgiveness does not create a relationship.  Unless people speak the truth about what they have done and change their mind and behavior, a relationship of trust is not possible.  When you forgive someone you certainly release them from judgement, but without true change, no real relationship can be established.”  Wm Paul Young, The Shack

“I’m sorry” isn’t required but it would be nice, wouldn’t it?  Somehow someone acknowledging they caused great pain is great medicine for our woundedness but a lot of times that doesn’t happen.  Someone once said “when someone lies to you or about you, they feel you’re not worthy of the truth”.  That hits home…someone who lies about you and to you doesn’t feel you’re worthy of the truth.  Why would we want them in our lives, to allow them to make us feel more unworthy of truth and love than we already do?

I’ve never been one to just go along.  I believe forgiveness IS possible without ever having to see or speak to someone again and when it’s gone on for as long as one can remember, I think it’s best, especially when there is no change in behavior “So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.” Matthew 7:17.  Owning up to what we’ve done, taking responsibility, is the best thing.  Some are incapable of that.  Don’t get me wrong I don’t like admitting my atrocities… it’s unpleasant and humbling but I always feel better and KNOW it’s right when I do.

Hope is a wonderful thing.  HOPING someone will change and see what they have done then change accordingly is always in order.  Praying for them is always, always right.  Ask God for them to open their hearts and eyes to see the realness of what has been done and ask Him to give them the desire to change and the courage to act upon that desire.

Until then, it’s okay if you don’t get back in with them.  We need to just be sure we’re “clean” – we must deal with our anger, hurt and disappointment in a godly way and the only way to do that is to take it to Him until it’s gone which sometimes takes a very long time.  I’ve found I don’t feel anything but pity for those who hurt me because they’re blinded by their version of self-justification and the lies they’ve come to believe.  We don’t have to be that way.  “It is what it is”, is one of my favorite sayings and that means to me, ONLY God can change it, I have to accept it and what I DO WITH IT is paramount.

We can allow that hurt to fester in many ways and change us, or we can truly desire to heal from it, forgive and get on with our lives.

We can choose forgiveness.  We can choose to let it go and go on and be better because of it and thankful we survived it.  Some didn’t.

I choose forgiveness; I pray you do too.

“Then Peter came and said to Him, Lord how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him?  Up to seven times?  Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.”  Matthew 18:21-22

Don’t You Dare!

No matter how you feel, where you are, what you’re going through.  No matter what everyone is saying and speaking, don’t you dare.

Don’t you dare start believing this is all there is. Don’t you dare believe that no one cares.  Don’t you dare succumb to the feelings of your dark moments because that’s what they are…MOMENTS.  Don’t you dare believe that it won’t get better, your pain won’t lessen, your despair won’t subside.  Don’t you dare.

Don’t you dare stop praying.  Even if it has been years that you’ve asked and not received, don’t you dare stop.  Just one more breath.  One more.  Just one more.  Don’t you dare fall for the lies of the enemy who is so crafty he knows the exact moment you feel like giving up and giving to speak a lie to you.

Remember who you are, Whose you are and where you’ve been. It may not be perfect right now but you are far from where you were.  Look back and see.  Remember.  Don’t you dare stop now. Don’t you dare.

This is a defining moment.  Choose to believe. Choose to walk on.  Choose to allow The only One who can make a difference do so.  Don’t you dare give up.  Don’t you dare. He knows your despair, the anguish of your soul.  He knows.  He knows the deep wounds, the gaping crevices of your heart and He’s busy right now filling them in.  He’s working on that ‘beauty from ashes’ thing right now.  Don’t doubt it.  Don’t doubt Him. Don’t you dare.
